Function and Structure Features of AHU Coil
Functions
Heat exchange
In cooling mode, a low temperature refrigerant flows inside the AHU coil, which reduces the temperature of the air through heat exchange with the air, thus cooling the indoor air.
In the heating mode, a high temperature heat medium (such as hot water or steam) flows inside the coil, which exchanges heat with the air to raise the temperature of the air and provide warm air for the room.
Air Conditioning
By controlling the flow of refrigerant or heat medium in the coil, the temperature of the air can be precisely adjusted to meet the indoor temperature requirements of different places.
At the same time, AHU coils can also dehumidify or humidify the air to maintain a suitable level of indoor humidity.
Structural Features
Coil Material
Usually a combination of copper tubes and aluminium fins is used, the copper tubes have good thermal conductivity, while the aluminium fins increase the heat exchange area and improve the heat exchange efficiency.
Some high-end products may use stainless steel tubes or other special materials of the coil to adapt to the special working environment.
Fin Forms
Common forms of fins include flat, corrugated and windowed fins. Different fin forms have different heat transfer and air resistance characteristics.
Window fins can increase the heat exchange area and improve the heat exchange efficiency, but at the same time, it will also increase the air resistance.
Coil arrangement
AHU coils can be arranged horizontally or vertically. Horizontally arranged coils are suitable for places with large space, while vertically arranged coils are suitable for places with small space.
The arrangement of the coils also affects the direction of air flow and resistance, thus affecting the performance of the air handling unit.
